Xanax (alprazolam) and clonazepam (Klonopin) are benzodiazepines commonly prescribed for anxiety and panic disorders, but they differ in potency, duration, and typical dosing. Xanax is a fast-acting benzodiazepine, often providing relief within one hour, making it useful for acute anxiety or panic attacks. Its effects, however, are relatively short-lived, generally lasting 4–6 hours. Clonazepam, in contrast, has a slower onset but a much longer duration, typically 12–24 hours, which can be advantageous for managing ongoing anxiety or preventing recurrent panic episodes.
